2nd Annual Stiff Person Syndrome Symposium

The 2nd Annual Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) Symposium will be held Sunday, May 21, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn. Organized by Duarte Machado, MD, who is board certified in neurology with subspecialty training in movement disorders, the event’s theme is “Beyond Suffering.”

The goal of the symposium is to raise awareness of SPS, as well as to provide a venue for sharing and learning. The event will feature people speaking about their experiences with SPS, medical professionals speaking about SPS and vendors. According to the event’s website, at the first annual meeting, participants met for dinner the evening before, as well as breakfast the day of the symposium.

Tickets for the symposium are free. The rate for the Holiday Inn located next to the Hartford Hospital is $115 per night. The website also accepts donations to help with the costs of organizing the event, but it is not mandatory. To register for the event, go to
